Geek TV reviews, recaps and more!
Holy Marvel news! In the last few days we have gotten a lot of announcements regarding upcoming Marvel projects.
First up, Marvel announced on Friday that Marvel Comics would be releasing an all female line up of Avengers. This book will be called “A Force Assemble” and is set to debut in May. “A Force Assemble” is co-written by G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite K. Bennett with artwork by Jorge Molina. This team of all female Avengers will feature She-Hulk, Medusa, Dazzler, and an awesome new character named Singularity!
Marvel expert Pat Loika shared his thoughts on the news on this week’s episode of Assembly of Geeks. You can hear the Assembly of Geeks team discuss the “A Force” in the first 15 minutes of the podcast episode.
Also on Assembly of Geeks this week I reviewed The Marvel Experience! I went to The Marvel Experience in San Diego on Saturday. I had no idea what to expect. I intentionally did not read reviews or look up anything about it online so that I could experience everything fresh. (Although I did ask Lacey @Fronkensteen about it because she went a few weekends ago in Dallas.)
My quick review is: I LOVED IT!
Is The Marvel Experience worth the money? YES
Is The Marvel Experience worth the time? YES
Is The Marvel Experience good for kids and adults? YES
My family and I spent about three hours inside the experience and had a really great time. It is an immersive S.H.I.E.L.D. recruiting training operation, where you get to play with Stark tech, climb Spidey walls and defeat enemies along side the Avengers. You can hear my full review, including the VIP experience, in the last 12 minutes of the same Assembly of Geeks podcast episode mentioned above.
For almost a decade, fans have wanted to see Spider-Man take his rightful place alongside S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers in the Marvel films, but it could not happen unless Sony agreed to let him. During the Sony hacks it was rumored that Sony and Marvel had been in talks to allow Spider-Man to make an appearance in an upcoming MCU film, but it had remained unconfirmed, until now.
The news broke yesterday that Sony was rebooting their Spider-Man franchise in partnership with Marvel’s Kevin Feige so that Spider-Man could appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films. FINALLY! Not only does Spidey get to appear in future Marvel films, but Marvel characters like the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents can appear in future Sony-produced Spider-Man films. If you have read the comics or seen any of the Ultimate Spider-Man show (Netflix, Disney XD), you know that Spidey works in close contact with Nick Fury and Agent Coulson. Clark Gregg even voices Coulson in this series. If Spider-Man can be in MCU films, why not the shows? I could easily see him on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D too 😉 Spider-Man is rumored to make his first appearance in Captain America 3: Civil War (May 2016) and will appear in his first standalone film July 28th, 2017.
Marvel also dropped the new trailer for Daredevil, which looks really, really awesome!
A lot of amazing actors are in this series (Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosario Dawson, Elden Henson, Scott Glenn). You can get some background on each character on Temple of Geeks and on Emergency Awesome. Daredevil premiers April 10th and all 13 episodes will be uploaded to Netflix on the same day #bingealert.
I think that’s it for all the awesome Marvel news… Did I miss anything? Oh! Lady Sif is coming back to Agents of Shield…. but I’ll post more on that later 😉
