Women Who Crush Wednesdays – New Series

Hi everyone! I will be starting a new series called Women Who Crush Wednesdays. This series will focus on one woman (or a group of women) every Wednesday, who are making an impact in the entertainment industry. This woman could be a showrunner, an actress, an editor, a director, a costume designer, a production assistant—any woman who is influencing the entertainment industry in some way.

I decided to this weekly feature because I think it’s important to remember that no matter how many times an article or a report says that men dominate Hollywood, there are just as many women who are making an impact in this industry. While it may be true that there are more male studio heads than women, that doesn’t change the fact that women are a strong, beautiful, creative force in this industry. This is in no way meant to diminish the work that men are doing in this industry, most of my favorite directors and producers are men—this is purely meant to showcase the women who you may not know a lot about.

For instance, did you know a woman wrote the earliest draft of Guardians of the Galaxy before James Gunn picked it up? Yup! That would be the lovely Nicole Perlman! Did you know that Angelina Jolie directed what I believe will the biggest box office hit of this Christmas season: Unbroken? Or, did you know that Peter Jackson is only one of three writers on the Lord of the Rings franchise? The other two writers are Philippa Boyens and Jackson’s wife, Fran Walsh.

Personally, I love learning about writers, directors, and producers who are more behind the scenes—who don’t get all the credit, whether they are male or female. In this instance, this #WCW series will be showcasing the amazing women who often remain behind the scenes and the incredible projects they have had a hand in.

If there are any women you would like to see featured on here PLEASE let me know!

Thanks! @Lauren_Gallaway
