Benedict Cumberbatch’s Tour de Force

Benedict Cumberbatch dominated 2013, and 2014 will be no different.

Not only did he bring his beloved Sherlock back from the dead, but he revived classic Star Trek villain Khan, personified Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, motion captured a fire breathing dragon (and the shrouded necromancer), mended broken hearts as Little Charles, and saved the life of a wrong fully enslaved Solomon Northup – all while filming and globe trotting to award shows, press junkets, and making friends and fans everywhere he goes 🙂

Despite having followed his career and professional schedule this year, it still baffles me just how much he was able to accomplish in twelve months.

Here is a look at Benedict’s incredible year!

January 2013 – Benedict finishes recording Series 4 of Cabin Pressure in London. The recording was open to fans, so many of my friends were able to attend.

January 2013 – Filming begins on The Fifth Estate in Iceland, Germany and Belgium. Benedict plays the leading role of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

A few friends in Belgium got to be background extras in scenes with Benedict, Daniel Bruhl and Dan Stevens. Woohoo!

March 2013 – Filming begins on Sherlock Season 3 in Cardiff and London

@Ruther2 on Twitter kept track of the filming via the #setlock tag here.

May 2013Star Trek Into Darkness is released in theaters

After years of silence and numerous interviews about his character “John Harrison”, we are delightfully surprised that Benedict is in fact KHAN!

July 2013 – Pickups are filmed for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in New Zealand

August 2013 – Filming resumes on Sherlock Season 3 in Cardiff and London

September 2013 – Benedict attends the Toronto International Film Festival

Three of his upcoming films are screened:

  • The Fifth Estate
  • August: Osage County
  • 12 Years a Slave (Received so well by critics and colleagues, director Steve McQueen gets a standing ovation. An early indication of it’s Oscar possibilities.)

September 2013 – Filming begins on The Imitation Game, with Benedict cast in the leading role as WWII code-breaker Alan Turning

October 2013The Fifth Estate opens in theaters

November 201312 Years a Slave is released in theaters

December 2013 – International press begins for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, with Benedict attending premiers in Los Angeles and Berlin
